Dozens Killed In Israeli Airstrike On Gaza Refugee Camp

Palestinians flee Rafah as death toll rises

Dozens killed in Israeli airstrike on Gaza refugee camp

At least 45 people, including women and children, have been killed in an Israeli airstrike on a camp for displaced people in Rafah, the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian health officials.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted a group of militants who were firing rockets into Israel. However, witnesses said the strike hit a civilian area, killing and injuring dozens of people.

The airstrike is the latest in a series of tit-for-tat attacks between Israel and Hamas, the Islamist group that controls Gaza. The violence has escalated in recent days, with Israel launching a ground invasion of Gaza on Thursday.

The Israeli military said its ground forces have seized control of the Gaza side of the border crossing at Rafah. The crossing is a vital lifeline for Gaza, and its closure is likely to worsen the humanitarian crisis in the territory.

The United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The UN Security Council is due to meet later today to discuss the situation.
